KARACHI: Over 21,729 people in Pakistan were screened for diabetes over the course of a year, and 11,500 of them were found to have type-2 diabetes, according to healthcare professionals who are part of the Discovering Diabetes (DD) project on Sunday. Of those people, approximately 53% were found to be diabetics.
“During the past year, the country's Discovering Diabetes helpline tracked up to 21,729 people who had been screened, and 11,500 of those people were found to have type-2 diabetes. “Abdus Samad, Director of the Discovering Diabetes (DD), told newsmen in Karachi that so far, 8,255 patients have been connected with healthcare professionals at the 200 Discovering Diabetes Clinics operating throughout the country for treatment,” he said.
Sent off in 2021 in a joint effort with Pakistan Endocrine Society (PES) and nearby drug firm Pharmevo, the Finding Diabetes (DDP) Undertaking is pointed toward contacting more than 10 million diabetics in Pakistan who are as yet undiscovered and because of difficulties of the illness confronting extreme entanglements including removals, renal disappointment, coronary failure, emotional well-being issues and different issues.

Abdus Samad maintained that, since the Discovering Diabetes project began in 2021, they had contacted approximately 5 million people through medical camps, special awareness campaigns, print and electronic media, as well as social media. He also stated that they planned to continue their search for undiagnosed diabetics in order to prescribe treatment for them.
The DD project lead stated that in addition to their toll-free helpline at 0800-66766 for diabetes education and support, they were collaborating with universities all over the country to locate missing diabetics, raise awareness, and use every means of communication to encourage healthy lifestyle choices.
In his message, renowned diabetologist Dr. Abbas Raza praised the Discovering Diabetes team's efforts to collect valuable data and connect patients with healthcare facilities for treatment. He also urged other pharmaceutical industry players to support or initiate such projects.
“Obtaining accurate data and locating the millions of diabetics who remain unaccounted for in Pakistan requires the support of the pharmaceutical industry.
